What is your greatest challenge when it comes to PP slides? Too much information? Too little?
One of my favourite authors on presentations, Frowa Schuitemaker, in her book Presentation Intelligence has some very handy advice:
- Signal-to-noise ration and the 3-second- rule
Consider signal-to-noise ratio, i.e., does the volume of information displayed on your slides distract from the essential message or does it support what you are saying effectively.
Frowa says: "If the audience can understand your slide within 3 seconds, then the amount of information is perfect."
- Brain-friendly slides
Make sure that the slides are clear, attractive and have a balance between text, images, models, and visuals.
- Be careful with enumerations
This is key. It is challenging for the brain to focus on lots of information to read and listening to a presenter at the same time. For multiple pieces of text, use simple animation and talk through each one by one.
